Freelancing World and Comparison among different vendors

July 4th, 2010 admin No comments

Here’s a great comparison analysis by one of our ezdia’s very own Associate, Sulabh Jain.

Limited Number of Bids :

There are numerous projects posted on all these websites. The freelancers have to apply their bids, in which they state their price and time they will take to complete the project. The employers selects the best bid according to his requirement and allot the project to the selected bidder.

Different sites placed a limit on this bidding in different ways. Using one account, they do not allow users to put unlimited bids. One have to be very specific about the project’s requirement while bidding.

Bidding Limit Comparison

At eZdia, initially the Users are given a privilege of unlimited bidding. They can bid on all the projects falling under their area of expertise.

Project Fee taken by the Websites :

While freelancing, you are never going to get the whole cake alone. All the freelancing sites takes their share from the Experts earnings. This amount varies from website to website and is always some percentage of the budget of your project. One can save some of this money if he purchases the membership, or in other words if he upgrades his account. There could be monthly charges you have to pay the website for getting this kind of membership.

Many websites not only charges the Freelancers but also charges the Project Posters, since the site is providing service to both of them. The following chart compares the project fee deducted from Expert / Client account on different websites.

Where some websites are charging Clients on posting their requirement, eZdia is providing incentive to employers in terms of the monetory benefits. Anyone who posts a project and gets it done by ezdia expert is awarded incentive based on the budget of his project.

May 5th, 2010 admin 50 comments

Ezdia is pleased to announce launch of new methods of withdrawing payment. Users can now withdraw payment using paypal and google check out.  Earlier,  the payments were being sent to user using postal checks.

Please allow upto 48 hours of the request to have your payment processed. All payment request are checked manually to detect any potential fraud.

Ezdia is also please to announce new incentive to the experts by refunding the 15% project fee. This incentive is available to all projects completed and paid before June 15, 2010. To use this feature please use the coupon code JUN152010 in the coupon field while withdrawing the payment.

How will the incentive amount calculated

The incentive amount will depend upon the amount of the project completed and paid and not the amount of the withdraw request.

Example - Expert A has $150 in his account. He requested withdraw of  $120 from his fund. On May 10, 2010 he completed and was paid $70 for a project. How much does he get paid ?

Expert A will additionally be paid 15% of the $70 – the value of the project he completed and was paid before June 15, 2010 . He will therefore be paid $120 + $10.50 = $130.50

Ezdia has also  updated its index page which helps a new user understand its function intuitively.

eZdia Launches online Payment and Project Posting systems

April 5th, 2010 admin 37 comments

April 5th, Houston TX:

eZdia launches the updated version of eZdia platform which includes the online payment and project posting features. This release also includes some of the newly redesigned user interfaces based on the feedback from the beta test by a selected set of users. These changes make the site user friendly to navigate, search for the needed information, and also to interact with the experts to get their customized answers and solutions.

The platform now offers a way for experts to monetize their expertise and at the same time provides an efficient way for solution seekers to get their questions answered and have their projects executed by experts.

eZdia Inc.

eZdia is an online platform that brings together seekers and providers of knowledge and contract services – which can be provided for free or sold for a negotiated fee. By leveraging its proprietary technology, eZdia not only ensues that the sellers of knowledge and services are reliable, but also presents the most relevant providers to individual solution seekers. In addition, the eZdia ‘Knowledge Bucket’ feature allows users to post propriety & web contents for providers/knowledge seekers to identify and address.

eZdia’s patent pending technology provides a platform that validates and ranks the reliability (expert level) of knowledge and services providers. The validation/ranking technology is able to not only deliver experts related to specific subjects, but also factors in the relative degrees of separation of the expert from the buyer.

The eZdia platform has been built with completely open source software, and uses open standards for seamless integration with various customers and third party applications created by users.

Browser Compatibility

November 29th, 2009 admin 1 comment

A great article on Browser compatibility issues by Chaitanya Goyal, Senior Software Engineer and eZdia’s very first employee.

As developers and designers all are facing many browsers issues while running website on different browsers. Most of these issues are with Internet Explorer rest browsers having better look n feel. If someone ask me to suggest which browser should be taken to authenticate uses worldwide then I must go with Mozilla :) ….. but as its not possible we must follow the browser compatibility.
Its gr8 to use Mozilla b’coz it gives developer toolbar called firebug which work very efficiently for finding any element of HTML Tag with applied class & style, I really appreciate and recommend every developer to use it.

Validate your code:

Run your HTML and CSS through validators before uploading your site. Valid code might not make your page magically work in all browsers, but invalid code can produce all sorts of unpredictable and hard-to-debug problems.

The W3C HTML Validator and CSS Validator are good places to start. You can also use browser plugins, such as the Html Validator Firefox add-on, to check pages automatically while you’re viewing them in the browser.

Use CSS reset rules:

You’ve probably lost count of the number of times you’ve had to add margin: 0; padding: 0; to a CSS rule to make it consistent across all browsers.

Make IE6 work with transparent PNGs:

PNGs are very big issue for IE6 b’coz it showing some background color if png image is transparent. Transparent PNG images are wonderful things — they let you have up to 256 levels of transparency in an image, which means you can do neat tricks like translucency and smooth borders on any type of background. However, Internet Explorer 6 doesn’t properly display transparent PNGs by default, instead displaying ugly boxes where the transparency should be.

Its good solution, with a bit of tweaking, you can get transparent PNGs to work perfectly in IE6, without having to make major changes to your markup or CSS. A good solution is IE PNG Fix from Angus Turnbull.

Code by hand:

My personal preference is to code all HTML, XHTML, and CSS by hand. That way I have full control over what I’m creating, and can easily fine-tune the code as necessary to work in a range of browsers.

If you find coding by hand tedious, there are many excellent text-based Web page editors out there to make your life easier. Take a look at CoffeeCup (Windows) or Coda (Mac).

Wrapping up:

Use wrapper class for as much as possible for code reusability.

Micosoft IE Tool:

Microsoft is now offering the Internet Explorer Developer Toolbar (beta) – Here is info on the toolbar from the Microsoft site:

Overview

The IE Developer Toolbar provides several features for deeply exploring and understanding Web pages.

  1. Explore and modify the document object model (DOM) of a web page.
  2. Locate and select specific elements on a web page through a variety of techniques.
  3. Selectively disable Internet Explorer settings.
  4. View HTML object class names, ID’s, and details such as link paths, tab index values, and access keys.
  5. Outline tables, table cells, images, or selected tags.
  6. Validate HTML, CSS, WAI, and RSS web feed links.
  7. Display image dimensions, file sizes, path information, and alternate (ALT) text.
  8. Immediately resize the browser window to 800×600 or a custom size.
  9. Selectively clear the browser cache and saved cookies. Choose from all objects or those associated with a given domain.
  10. Choose direct links to W3C specification references, the Internet Explorer team weblog (blog), and other resources.
  11. Display a fully featured design ruler to help accurately align objects on your pages.
